Civil Engineering Department of Universitas Jember is holding an International Guest Lecture on Infrastructure Development with topics about ‘Urban Rail Transit Technology Roadmap’ and ‘East Java Railway System Development’ on Thursday, November 26th, 2020. This lecture is running online with Zoom Application and attended by 500 participants on average. The participants are consist of the Head of Civil Engineering, students from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), participants from MASKA, 4. Participants from Forum Perkerataapian, a student from non-UNEJ, academics, and student of Universitas Jember.

This lecture was led by Retno Utami Agung Wiyono, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. with Luthfi Amri Wicaksono, S.T., M.T as master of ceremony. Prof. Slamin., Ph.D. delivers Opening Speech. There is 2 speaker in this International Guest Lecture; the first is Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo, P.Tech. (TL) from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and Dr. Ir. Dadang Supriyatno, M.T., ATU., IPU. Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo, P.Tech, is currently the Head of Department of Transportation Engineering Technology, Head (Performing Duties) of Industry Centre of Excellence for Railway (ICoE-Rel), Faculty of Engineering Technology Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Malaysia. He graduated from Diploma Postgraduate (Dipl.TREND) – Road and Transportation Engineering in Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, 1995, followed by M.Sc. in Road and Transportation Engineering from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands and Doktor-Ingenieur in Traffic and Transportation Engineering from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany. Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo, P.Tech, is also a Research Fellow in Transportation Engineering at the Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan. Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo is a member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee. The second speaker is Dr. Ir. Dadang Supriyatno. He is a senior fellow of Universitas Negeri Surabaya, he also Chairman of the East Java Indonesian Railway Society. He is a member of Forum Studi Transportasi Antar Perguruan Tinggi (FSTPT), Masyarakat Perkeretaapian Indonesia (MASKA), and MTI.

Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo, P.Tech. (TL), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia

Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo gives the first lecture. Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo explained about Urban Rail Transit Technology Roadmap. He explained that the Rail Industry is defined as those involved in the design, development, integration, manufacture, assembly, restoration, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of rail transportation systems. In Malaysia, Rail Industry development focuses on both the passenger and freight market segment. He explained that UTHM leads the Industry-Center of Excellence for Railway (ICoE-Rail). In any terms, the rail program in FTK is strongly supported by I-COE Rail, especially for training and practical matters related to rail technologies. Transportation infrastructures and investment are important elements on the nation’s development agenda based on economic transformation. Dr. Ing. Joewono Prasetijo mentions four fundamentals for the public transport system and infrastructures that might strengthen the good quality development and human resource; operation, design, maintenance, and human resource.

Dr. Ir. Dadang Supriyatno, M.T., ATU., IPU. Universitas Negeri Surabaya

Dr. Ir gives the second lecture. Dadang Supriyatno. Dr. Ir. Dadang Supriyatno explained about East Java Railway System Development. He explained the national policy, which includes improving the railways’ operational safety by building a safety culture in every railway operation, integrating train services with other modes, increasing trains’ role, and increasing public accessibility to railway services. Dr. Ir. Dadang Supriyatno also explained the criteria for improving East Java railways from stakeholders that need to be developed, including potential development, integration of transportation modes, improved services, and government efforts to reactivate the entire road network in East Java.  Dr. Ir. Dadang Supriyatno also explained the analysis of the development of double-track railways in East Java. The existing single-line train delays often occur, resulting in delays. The double track that has been completed is the North route (Bojonegoro-Surabaya), the Central route is still under construction, and the South and East route is still being planned.

The participant is very attracted during the lecture and asks many questions about Urban Rail Transit Technology Roadmap and East Java Railway System Development. Even tho the pandemic was still ongoing, it didn’t decrease the enthusiasm for participants to learn and gain lessons in civil engineering, especially on transportation research.
